LEANDER - Information obtained by Hill Country News, through an open records request, provides new details in the death of a Leander High School freshman who fatally shot herself at school in the girl's bathroom.

A loaded Ruger .380 automatic handgun was found near the body of 15-year-old Meagan Allen-Kandis on April 4 at LHS, according to an incident detail face page report released by Leander Police this week.

The report also indicates police found a notebook with suicide letters.

The narrative of the report simply said that police "received a report of a shooting from the Leander ISD School Administration in the 3300 block of South Bagdad Road that occurred in a female's bathroom. The investigation remains ongoing."

The new details released, however, come from the "property" information contained in the weekly report.

Included in the property list was:

• A Ruger .380 Automatic.

• Notebook/suicide letters.

• One sheet of paper.

• Magazine and rounds.

• A spent casing.

• A recovered bullet.

Also included in the report are the names of 12 people police interviewed, including administrators, friends and the victim's mother.

Police did not release any report generated from a reported bomb threat at the school following the suicide which caused the high school to be evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Officials previously said the threat was unrelated to the suicide.

Welcome to the discussion.

FoxNews is the leader for misrepresentation of news. At least this paper prints facts.

I dont how many more times the police can inform us that bullying had nothing to do with it. Who is asking for more information about this incident? You Just a Thought?? Maybe you should find a hobby besides commenting on the message board of a tabloid. Respect the family and leave it be.

No doubt the released information is limited; however, information on why this child did this is important. If bullying or harassment is the cause then all should be concerned. The paper is doing what any newspaper does and that is report. They have not sensationalized the incident like FoxNews, they are only reporting what is available and what people are asking about. This will put an end to many rumors but questions will still be asked.

I agree we should respect the family, friends, and school during this time, but was this a preventable incident? If so, where did the community fail?

This is news because? Unfortunately what is done is done. Let the family and friends morn the loss of their loved one. Why do we need to keep hearing about this?
