LEANDER - Information obtained by Hill Country News, through an open records request, provides new details in the death of a Leander High School freshman who fatally shot herself at school in the girl's bathroom.
A loaded Ruger .380 automatic handgun was found near the body of 15-year-old Meagan Allen-Kandis on April 4 at LHS, according to an incident detail face page report released by Leander Police this week.
The report also indicates police found a notebook with suicide letters.
The narrative of the report simply said that police "received a report of a shooting from the Leander ISD School Administration in the 3300 block of South Bagdad Road that occurred in a female's bathroom. The investigation remains ongoing."
The new details released, however, come from the "property" information contained in the weekly report.
Included in the property list was:
• A Ruger .380 Automatic.
• Notebook/suicide letters.
• One sheet of paper.
• Magazine and rounds.
• A spent casing.
• A recovered bullet.
Also included in the report are the names of 12 people police interviewed, including administrators, friends and the victim's mother.
Police did not release any report generated from a reported bomb threat at the school following the suicide which caused the high school to be evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Officials previously said the threat was unrelated to the suicide.
