Some of the best amateur athletes in 21 different sports will be in Central Texas venues this weekend as part of the TAAF's (Texas Amateur Athletic Foundation's) AT&T Games of Texas.

While the Games of Texas started last weekend with the 3-on-3 soccer and volleyball events, the opening ceremonies are slated to start at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock for a pre-ceremony.

The cost to get into the opening ceremony is $5.

This will be the second year that Williamson County is hosting the Games of Texas, with both Cedar Park and Leander slated to host sporting events.

Cedar Park will host two events for the games, as wiffleball and swimming will take place at Elizabeth Milburn Park.

Last year, more than 3,000 swimmers and over 10,000 spectators swarmed Milburn Park to watch swimmers and wiffleballers compete at the games.

“The Games of Texas is always a huge event, and the communities that host always benefit from the tourist value it brings.” said Cedar Park Aquatics and Recreation Coordinator Tim Dean.

Starting Friday at 9 a.m., swimming will be split into six sessions over three days, covering swimmers from ages 8 and up.

Due to the wild summer rains, organizers already have plans in place to make sure as many events as possible can be completed in case of rain delays. Lightning detectors will be on-site as well. Plans are in place to keep the wiffleball events running on time, with games starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Finals will start on Sunday.

Twenty teams are signed up to play in a two-division field, including last year's Division II champs, Upper Deck.

Upper Deck is led by former Cedar Park baseball player Dillon Deckert.

Leander will also host a triathlon at Apache Pool in Block House Creek on Saturday.

More than 7,500 athletes will compete in featured sports like archery, badminton, baseball, bowling, boxing, disc golf, fencing, flag football, youth golf, lifeguard competition, paintball, racquetball, soccer (3 v 3), adult softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, triathlon, girl's volleyball, washers and wiffleball.
