Let's bring on some pretty flowers

The old axiom says “April showers bring May flowers.”

Well, the headlines in this newspaper were very stormy throughout the month of April. Maybe things will get rosier in May.

Just a quick recap of April:

€ A local guy gets killed in a horrific crash on Lakeline.

€ Cedar Park City Council Place 4 candidates accuse the mayor of intimidation.

€ A kid drives southbound in a northbound lane on the interstate and is killed.

€ The first local casualty in Iraq.

€ An Avery Ranch crash claims more young lives.

€ An explosion starts a structure fire in Cedar Park.

€ The second local casualty in Iraq.

€ A Volente woman drowns in Lake Travis.

€ Rabid bats are found at the YMCA.

€Red River workers walk off the job and get replaced.

€ Leander council votes against a development that would provide water and wastewater to the east side without using city dollars.

€ Major structure fires occur in Steiner Ranch.

€ A Bastrop car crash kills three former Cedar Park residents, including two kids.

€ Vandals break into Cedar Park Middle School and cause major damage.

€ Cedar Park has a complaint filed against the council and staff just days before a local TV station slams the city on overcharged municipal court fines.

€ And on the last day of the month - there is an aggravated robbery at a Cedar Park convenience store and State Representative Mike Krusee is arrested on DUI charges.

There was also good news, like grants getting doled out to the cities, scholarships being awarded to students and sports teams thriving.

Let's hope May goes much better. It's quite possible. We have the Cedar Chopper Cook-off, the Leander Business Expo and teams vying for state titles at next weekend's state track meet. The Cedar Park Heritage Festival is this month, the CPEC is scheduled to break ground this month and local elections are this month. My birthday is this month.

Let's hope things get a little better for all. We already have to deal with high gas prices and an ugly presidential race.
