After the recent retirement of Support Services Bureau Capt. Debbie Dugger (Wednesday, April 30, 2008), Cedar Park Police Chief Henry Fluck began considering eligible lieutenant candidates to fill the vacant position. After the process was completed, Patrol Night Lt. Mike Harmon was chosen and was appointed as captain on Monday, May 19, at a ceremony held in the police station community room.
Harmon has been with the Cedar Park Police Department for 10 years. He has served as an officer, patrol corporal, detective, patrol sergeant, special operations sergeant, criminal investigations sergeant, professional standards sergeant, and patrol night platoon lieutenant.
He was named “Officer of the Year” in 1999 and received the city's Police Department Employee of the Year award in 2002.
Capt. Harmon has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Texas State University, Masters Peace Officer Certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education, and is a graduate from the Leadership Command College of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute at Sam Houston State University.
Harmon will be placed in command over the support services bureau, which includes criminal investigations, communications, records division, community services and animal control.
