Scouts win Hornaday Award
Print this story | Email this story
Boy Scouts from Troop 202, chartered at Scouters for Future Leaders, spent Earth Day Weekend working toward scouting's highest conservation award, the Hornaday Award, at Lost Pines Scout Camp in Bastrop, on the LCRA Lost Pines Scout Reservation. The scouts were Chase Harrington, William Smith, Jake Tipps, John Eades and Sean Aleman.
To earn the award, the scout must demonstrate his knowledge of natural resource protection and management and carry out a project that puts that knowledge into practice. He must consult with a conservation professional to identify the best conservation practices for each proposed project, ensure the project will continue into the future, provide an educational component and achieve public awareness of the project through media coverage.
