Giddens Elementary's Jandal wins Keen on Clean coloring contest

This year the city of Cedar Park hosted its first annual environmental coloring contest in recognition of Earth Day, through the Keen on Clean Program. Over 300 drawings from five LISD elementary schools were submitted in this year's contest. Nine winners and one Grand Prize winner was announced on April 22, 2008, Earth Day.
Each of the winning drawings from each LISD grade school will be featured on the side of a Red River waste collection truck. They were unveiled to the public on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Checks for $125 were presented to four schools' Art Department with $1,000 check presented to Giddens Elementary Art Department for Virginia Jandal's Grand Prize winning entry. The contest was sponsored by the City of Cedar Park and Red River Waste Solutions, Inc. in an effort to promote ways to “Keep Cedar Park Beautiful” by recycling, reducing waste and protecting our environment.
Schools involved and winners are: Cox Elementary, 1st: Mia Ellison, 2nd: Katie Nichols, Faubion Elementary, 1st: Iris Ham, 2nd: Erin Dalrymple, Naumann Elementary, 1st: Mandy Sanchez, 2nd: Sarah Ingram, CC Mason Elementary, 1st: Azariah O'Gwin, 2nd: Sierra Stevenson, Giddens Elementary, 2nd: Kyser Wiley and Grand Prize winner: Virginia Jandal.
The Keen on Clean Program also implemented a beautification project that installed landscaping around the entrance sign to Veteran's Memorial Park on May 24 in recognition of Memorial Day. Texas Disposal System donated the $1,000 of landscaping products needed to complete the project and Henry Middle School's Jr. Master Gardener Program along with Cedar Park Explorer Post 102 volunteered the labor to build the retaining wall and plant the foliage.
