The Cedar Park Police Department is gearing up for the 25th Annual National Night Out event by hosting a Kickoff Party on Tuesday, July 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Heritage Oak Park, located at the corner of Discovery Boulevard and Quest Parkway, across from the Cedar Park Police Station and the library.
The public is invited to attend this free event that will host a variety of fun activities including outside video games, laser tag, inflatable jumpers, fire and police car displays, live music, and much more. This event gives local businesses and citizens an opportunity to support crime-fighting efforts and prevention, not only in residential neighborhoods but also in commercial districts as well.
The event will help raise awareness about the upcoming National Night Out event scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5. Information will be provided to help residents host a successful block party. It is on this evening that residents in neighborhoods throughout Cedar Park and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Cedar Park neighborhoods are encouraged to host block parties with a variety of special events such as cookouts, parades and contests as well as visits from police, fire and elected officials.
National Night Out is designed to do several key things: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods and now businesses are organized and fighting back.
National Night Out is being supported by Target, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
It is not too late to host a block party, just contact Sgt. Jesse Campbell at (512) 259-4646 to register your block today. For sponsorship information, contact Yvonne Lane at (512) 401-5160.
The Cedar Park Police Department invites everyone to be a part of these celebrations of unity and awareness that will bring safety and reduced crime and violence to the city of Cedar Park.
