Local athletes claim medals at AAU Jr. Olympics

Cedar Park junior Holmes Onwukaife and younger sister Crystal combined for four medals at the 2008 AAU Jr. Olympics, held from July 23 to Aug. 2 in Detroit.
An All-District defensive lineman as a sophomore, Holmes Onwukaife brought home medals in the Intermediate boys discus, shot put and javelin.
He came in fourth in both the discus (142 feet, three inches) and the shot put (48-10).
His throw of 157-0 in the javelin put him in seventh place. All three totals were personal bests.
Younger sister Crystal came away with a bronze medal in the Bantam girls' shot put, finishing with an effort of 27-04. This was the third straight bronze medal for her in this event.
Texas Thunder's Lemmons medals at Jr. Olympics
The Texas Thunder Track Club had 12 athletes run at the Jr. Olympics, with Ryan Lemmons coming away with the team's top medal in the Midget boys' 80-meter hurdles.
Lemmons ran a personal best 12.82 seconds to place fourth.
Other top performances included: David Moritz in the Midget boys' 80 hurdles (9th, 12.99), John West in the Sub-Youth boys' triple jump (12th, 32-06.00), Zach Santiago in the Intermediate boys' 110 hurdles (22nd, 15.65), Joey Carter in the Midget boys' 80 hurdles (30th, 14.05), Ronald Jones in the Sub-Midget boys' 200 (55th, 29.22) and 400 (31st, 1:03.89), Helen Roddy in the Primary girls' 800 (34th, 3:12.72), Theodore Evans in the Bantam boys' 1,500 (47th, 6:28.92), J.P. Coward in the Youth boys' 100 (54th, 12.46) and 200m (59th, 25.49), Lauren West in the Bantam girls' long jump (46th, 10-04.75), and Kara DiClemente in the Bantam girls' long jump (56th, 9-07.50).
