Rangers head to Waco to face Panthers

There was a little extra in the strides of Vista Ridge players and coaches this week.

Getting a season-opening win over Bowie, as well as being named “Team of the Week” by Texas Football will inspire that.

Now Vista Ridge (1-0) will be looking for back-to-back wins to start the season tonight at 7:30 p.m. when they play at Waco Midway.

“The environment around here is a little different than in the past,” said Vista Ridge coach Bill Wilder. “Beating Bowie gave these kids so much confidence, and they believe they can compete with anyone.”

Vista Ridge put on quite a comeback against Bowie for that win, including two Houdini-like touchdown runs from quarterback Taylor McHargue.

McHargue put up 213 yards in total offense and three total touchdowns in the win.

His play, along with another strong game by Calvin Thompson (122 yards rushing on 19 carries) will again be big factors this week against the Panthers.

Defensively, Brandon Sheldon (22 tackles), David Gest (11 tackles) and Michael Pickett (8 tackles) will also need to repeat their strong games against a stout Midway offense.

The Panthers are paced by tailback John Hubert (over 1,200 yards rushing in 2007) and tight end Trey Graham (already committed to University of Texas).
