Lady T'wolves tame Lady Tigers in district volleyball

The Cedar Park volleyball team got its second straight win in District 16-5A play on Friday night with a 25-14, 25-19, 20-25, 25-20 win over Stony Point.
The Lady Timberwolves (3-2 in 16-5A, 17-10) had leads of at least six points in all three games they won. Providing most of those was Sydney Adair, who had 16 kills and 22 digs.
“This was another win we knew we had to have,” said Cedar Park coach Rebekah Almanza. “Now we're hoping to close out the first half of district strong.”
Middle blocker Amanda Moritz added seven kills and three blocks in the win. Setter Samantha Overton put up a season-best 45 assists.
Cedar Park hosted Westwood on Tuesday night and will play at cross-town rival Leander Friday night to close the first half of district.
Leander drops contest to Georgetown in four
Leander (2-3 in 16-5A, 16-17) lost its third-straight in district play last Friday in a tough 25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 28-26 decision to second-place Georgetown.
The loss came despite another big match from Ashley Hilbun, Sarah Roese and Devyn Wieckowski for the Lady Lions.
Hilbun finished with 14 kills in the middle. Roese added 15 kills and a block. Wieckowski finished with 15 assists, 11 digs and 10 kills.
Setter Rachael Scott finished with 24 assists, 10 digs and three aces, with defensive specialist LeAnne Showman adding 11 digs and four kills.
“Georgetown is a very good team,” said Leander coach Ashley Atkinson. “We not only stayed with them, but we nearly forced that match to a fifth game.”
Leander played at McNeil on Tuesday night and will host cross-town rival Cedar Park Friday night.
Vista Ridge swept by state-ranked Round Rock
Vista Ridge (0-5 in 16-5A, 10-12) found the going tough in Friday night's match against state-ranked Round Rock, losing 25-12, 25-22, 25-21.
Nicole Hajka paced the offense with 10 kills, while setter Allison Gideon chipped in 23 assists and three kills.
Christine Sas had eight digs, six aces and six kills for the Lady Rangers.
