Gov. Perry places friendly UT-OU bet with Gov. Henry

Gov. Rick Perry placed a friendly wager with Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry this week over the outcome of the Red River Rivalry game between the University of Texas Longhorns and the University of Oklahoma Sooners.

“UT and OU are both exceptional football teams that have started the season strong, but even this Aggie knows that the Oklahoma Sooners are no match for Coach Brown and the Texas Longhorns,” Perry said. “I look forward to watching the Longhorns maintain their undefeated status and knock the Sooners out of that number one spot at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday.”

Henry offered a different point of view.

“Both the Sooners and Longhorns are great teams and both are undefeated, but I have every confidence that Coach Stoops and the Sooners will build on their phenomenal season with victory at the Cotton Bowl,” Henry said. “Texas is highly ranked, and justifiably so, but I have a strong suspicion that Saturday will mark their first loss of the year.”

Both governors have agreed that the losing governor will donate cases of steaks to an organization that has helped victims of Hurricane Ike.

The Red River Rivalry has been an annual tradition for over a century. It takes place in Dallas' Cotton Bowl Stadium. This year's game begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, and pits the fifth-ranked Longhorns against the top-ranked Sooners.
