Cedar Park Band wins fourth at state contest

The Cedar Park Marching Band was named the fourth best Class 5A band in the state Tuesday at the State Marching Contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Flower Mound Marcus was the top winner and Vista Ridge finished 20th in the preliminaries.
In the finals, Cedar Park was awarded scores of 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 for a total of 25 points. Marcus had a total of eight points (1, 1, 2, 2, 2), Hurst L. D. Bell finished second with 21 points and Coppell (23) was fourth.
CPHS placed fifth in preliminary competition with a fantastic performance. This performance placed the band amoung the top 10 bands in the state and qualified them for the evening's finals.
"The students put on the performance of their lives," Cedar Park Band Director Steve Wessels said. "The crowd response was what the band loves to see and hear."
Also last weekend, the CPHS band achieved another historical moment in the history of Cedar Park High School, Wessels said. With 52 bands participating in preliminary competition of the Bands of America Super Regionals at the Alamodome, the band the band finished in third place. The band continued in finals competition with a third place finish as well. This is the highest the Timberwolf Band has placed in this competition. Bands that were competing at this competition were from far away as Colorado, Oklahoma as well as El Paso, Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio and other cities.
"Some of the best bands in the country were participating," Wessels said.
