It's time to move forward

I never commented much about the presidential election because, well, I don't get all rolled up in the presidential election. I'll admit that my guy didn't win. I wasn't extremely passionate about this election like most folks and I'm not convinced Williamson County is a so-called light shade of purple.

Sure, the Democrats look like they made a statement in Williamson County, but to me, it's all fool's gold. Here's why.

I hung out with a very good friend of mine two weeks ago. She said, “Hey guess what? I voted early last week.”

My comment: “Cool, thanks for voting. Let me guess, you voted for Obama?”

“Yes, how'd you know,” she remarked.

Just a hunch. So I asked her who she voted for in the U.S. Senate race.

“Who ran again?” she asked.

“Um, John Cornyn and Rick Noriega.”

“Which one was the Democrat?”

At that point I asked, “Did you vote straight Democrat ticket?”

She said no.

I said good. I proceeded to tell her about a Texas state representative candidate who's a 9/11 conspiracy theorist who believes our country attacked ourselves for oil.

“Oh, no. I didn't vote for him,” she said.

I said that if she voted for the Democrat, then she voted for the conspiracy theorist.

Now, she's still a very good friend, one who's very smart and someone I respect deeply. I just don't believe in blindly voting for things in which you have no idea. Did the Democrats have a better showing this year than most in this county? Of course.

I'm not buying that there's a shift of power in this county. But then again, I am buying the president. I have to. It's my duty as a United States citizen. A majority of our country wanted him and he's what we've got. Foreigners still want to leave their country and live here. The new president will have a mess to clean up. There are still two wars going on. All this, regardless of the new commander-in-chief.

He's my president. He's all of our president. Let's move forward now.
