Cedar Park girls' basketball coach Mark Myers picked up his 600th career win on Tuesday night, getting that win in an emotional 61-57 home decision over state-ranked Waco Midway.
Cedar Park (3-0) played well throughout, but needed several plays in the final 30 seconds to put away Waco Midway.
“This was an incredible win for our program,” an excited Myers said. “We needed the whole team to play well and there were so many players that stepped up and made plays for us.”
One of those plays came with 33 seconds left as Falyn Myers swished a 3-pointer to give Cedar Park a 60-57 lead. Falyn finished with 12 points and four 3-pointers.
The Lady T'wolves then denied the Lady Panthers on their last two possessions to help ensure the win.
Post Kristen Florence played a big role in the win, scoring 13 points and snagging nine rebounds. She also had the duty of guarding Cokie Reed (already committed to play at the University of Texas), holding Reed to just nine points.
“Kristen really did a great job on both offense and defense,” Myers said. “She just battled for us and played great defense in the post”.
Cedar Park also had two players put up double-doubles in Kristi Lianza (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Maddie “Fang” Wheeler (11 points, 11 rebounds), with point guard Cori Cummings finishing with 10 assists and six rebounds.
Cedar Park will look to add to its win totals this weekend at the Marble Falls Tournament.
