2019 Queso Meltdown

Posted by corbinco

Queso, that cheesy, gooey staple of Tex-Mex cuisine, will take center stage at the third annual Queso Meltdown. Similar to a chili cook-off, this event lets queso connoisseurs sample and compete for the title of the best queso in town. The event also features live music, food trucks, vendors, a Kids Zone play area and lots of melted, chile-laden cheese. Lisa Fain, the award-winning food writer behind the Homesick Texan blog and author of the cookbook Queso!, will serve as a celebrity judge.

Admission is $5 and includes complimentary chips and the opportunity to taste many versions of queso created by both amateurs and professional chefs from local restaurants. Special “Big Cheese” tickets are available for $25 and include 2 Fiesta medals and a chance to win great prizes. Professionals and amateurs are invited to register to compete.

All proceeds will benefit Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM), a San Antonio-based nonprofit providing immediate safety net services to 50,000 people annually. CAM helps working poor families, children, the elderly, those that are homeless, veterans and others in crisis by providing food, clothing, financial assistance, ID and birth certificate recovery and much more.

Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information call 210-223-4099.
