Cedar Park rolls in rivalry game against Vandegrift

Mak Sexton throws for 350 yards and three touchdowns


Mak Sexton threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns, Drew McDaniel caught two touchdowns and threw one, and Cedar Park dominated both sides of the ball in a 38-7 win against Vandegrift Friday night at Monroe Stadium. 

Four different receivers caught a touchdown pass for the Timberwolves and three different players threw for a score. Cedar Park has won seven of its eight matchups against Vandegrift dating back to 2010. 

The Vipers were led by Ryan Moore, who completed 12 of 25 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown. Justin Florence recorded seven catches for 97 yards and a touchdown, while Isaiah Smallwood ran for 28 yards on 12 carries. 

Cedar Park scored the first 17 points of the game, which included a double pass where McDaniel hit Dalton Hayek on a 53-yard trick play. The Vipers scored midway through the second quarter when Moore threw a 29-yard touchdown to Florence. 

The Timberwolves continued their air raid offense in the second half and scored on their first two drives of the half. Vandegrift, meanwhile, went three-and-out on two of its first three drives in the second half. 

Cedar Park begins district play next Friday night at Gupton Stadium when they face off against Bastrop. Vandegrift will look to avoid dropping its first three games fort eh first time in school history when they travel to meet Killeen on Thursday night.
