Festival-goers beat the weather

Thousands of festival-goers were able to beat the weather and enjoy Leander’s annual Old Town Street Festival on Saturday.

Originally, weather forecasts had called for rain on Saturday. Instead, attendees enjoyed pleasant temperatures and mostly cloudy skies.

Artisans, musicians and food vendors packed the Old Town area, and country music star Doug Stone performed as the highlight of the day.

The free event, created by The Leander Chamber of Commerce five years ago, was expecting to host around 140 local and national business vendors showcasing a variety of products ranging from handmade jewelry to custom rugs.

Family-friendly events featured attractions for kids including a petting zoo, pony rides, and a train for children to ride on.

“One of the purposes of the event and the reason that the chamber started this event was to give those businesses that maybe didn’t have a storefront an opportunity to get exposure,” Leander Chamber of Commerce President Bridget Brandt said last week.
