On a sun-soaked afternoon in Cedar Park this past Friday, Hill Country Christian School of Austin hosted its fifth annual “Grow Stronger. Serve Longer” 5K & Health Fair on its campus sponsored by the school’s Healthy Knights, a Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) committee.
The day was one focused on enhancing health wellness for hundreds of students, parents and teachers while having fun along the way. Games, healthy snacks and activities brought out the best of this school’s community before they kicked off the 5K race that combined competitive runners alongside those who chose to walk and talk their way around the course.
“I enjoyed winning the medal I received after running,” said Kora Grayce Ingram. Ingram is a fourth-grader at Hill Country Christian School and especially enjoyed the photo booth with all her friends.
The Hill Country Healthy Knights promoted their wellness fair as a way to share the importance of living a balanced way of life through nutrition but it has grown into so much more. After five years, this annual event has become one that truly brings the school community together. Local sponsors each year step up to provide tee shirts, crafts, face painting and food to the Hill Country community. They play an active role and their contribution is significant throughout the fair.
Kris Evans, Healthy Knight’s co-chair, shared the importance of glorifying God with our smart choices. “The whole event really exposes our children and school community to physical fitness and health,” she said. “The kids love the accomplishment of finishing the race and the fellowship throughout the entire event.”
