Keep the fur babies warm: Winter Blanket Drive collects fleece throws for shelter

Cedar Park’s Happy Tails Pet Resort is hosting a blanket drive for the dogs and cats at Texas Humane Heroes, an animal rescue shelter in Leander. New fleece throws are needed to help give rescue animals a warm place to stay while they wait to be adopted into their forever home.

Sherry Sadler McDonnell, community relations director at Happy Tails Pet Resort, said they hope to collect at least 100 blankets for the animals.

“We want to give them enough blankets to get them through the year,” she said.

Brenda Tatro, Happy Tails Pet Resort’s owner was involved with Texas Humane Heroes as a volunteer for several years. She fostered dogs and cats until they were old enough to get adopted.

"I selected Texas Humane Heroes as a community outreach project because the work they do is very close to my heart,” Tatro said. “I volunteered as a "foster parent" for several years, taking care of the mamas and bottle-feeding the babies, both dogs and cats, until they were able to be adopted.  The only problem is that it gets very hard to let them go."

Anyone interested donating should stop by Happy Tails Pet Resort, located at 509 Cypress Creek Rd., during business hours.  The drive will run through the end of January.
