Cross Country success for Leander ISD schools continued Monday morning at regional meets in Huntsville and Dallas.
After winning district titles last weekend, Cedar Park once again swept the boys’ and girls’ team competitions at the regional level in Huntsville. Both squads had three runners finish in the Top 10 in the region.
Austin Grendel (16:35.90) finished sixth overall for the boys, Jack Woods (16:40.80) finished ninth and Alden Yi (16:47.00) came in 10th overall. The Timberwolves didn’t have a boy finish outside the Top 25 as Owen Daugherty (17:01.00), John Scott (17:02.60), Nate Maki (17:09.30) and Peyton Chriswisser (17:11.80)
Gracie Hall (18.58.00) finished third overall in the girls’ race while Sophia Roach (19.27.20) took home seventh overall and Kaitlyn Childress (19:32.80) came in ninth. Alena Albertson (19:44.50), Samantha Pettey (20:03.00), Reese Barucky (20:27.70) and Juliana Lozano (21:20.10) rounded out the Lady Timberwolves.
Rouse saw three girls finish in the Top 25 as Sydney Knight (19:46.00) finished 13th overall, Megan Ombres (20:16.20) finished 21st and Emily Forster (20:19.10) came in 22nd overall.
At the Class 6A regional meet in Dallas, the Vandegrift girls’ team finished second overall to qualify for the state meet, while Viper junior Anthony Monte (14:52.89) placed third overall and Vista Ridge senior (15:23.48) finished 11th.
Jordan Mathis (17:01.34) finished third overall for the Vandegrift girls and her sister Taylor Mathis (18:03.75) came in the seventh. Gemma Goddard (18:30.23) finished 15th, Emma Saia (18:37.84) finished 18th while Brianna Garza (19:05.66), Margaret McElmurry (19:24.00) and Carolyn Presley (19:35.98) capped off a successful day for the Vipers.
The state meet will begin with the girls’ Class 6A races at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 3 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
