LETTER: There's no Christianity in the Constitution

Posted

Guest columnist Michael Shannon's concern for our Constitution is one I share. But I puzzle over his claim that the left prefers a Constitution "shorn of Christianity." There is no Christianity in the Constitution. There is no mention of Christ or even of God. The only reference to religion is that no religious test be required for public office.

There are groups today who are pushing hard to dismantle and restructure our Constitution. They call for a Constitutional Convention. But Mr. Shannon need not fear the left for that initiative; it is led by ultra-conservative groups such as ALEC.
