Mexican soccer is coming to Dell Diamond for the second time this year.
Liga MX rivals Tigres and Chivas de Guadalajara will face off in a friendly on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 5:00 p.m. Tigres played a match at the home of the Express earlier this year, beating Pachuca 2-0 in front of more than 7,000 fans in July.
“We are proud to bring Liga MX soccer back to Dell Diamond for the second time this season,” Ryan Sanders Sports & Entertainment COO J.J. Gottsch said in a release. “Chivas and Tigres are two of the very best clubs in Mexico and we are excited to welcome them back to Central Texas.”
Tigres have been crowned Campeón de Campeones the last three years and have won the Liga MX Apertura every year between 2015 and 2017. They were runners-up in the Copa Libertadores in 2015 and the CONCACAF Champions League in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
Earlier this year, they brought international stars such as André-Pierre Gignac, Eduardo Vargas, Guido Pizarro, Jorge Torres Nilo as well as former Mexican National team manager Tuca Ferretti to Dell Diamond.
Chivas is the most popular team in Mexico and has won the league a record 12 times, most recently lifting the Clausura and Copa MX titles in 2017. They won the CONCACAF Championship League in 2018.
In the most recent Clausura that wrapped up play with the playoffs in May, Tigres advanced to the Liguilla with a fifth-place finish during the regular season, while Chivas missed out on the playoffs and finished in 17th, second to last in the league.
Tickets start at $40 and will be on sale beginning Aug. 23.
