LISD Board welcomes MacKay

The Leander ISD Board of Trustees swore in two returning members – Pam Waggoner and Grace Barber-Jordan – and welcomed new member, Jim MacKay at its meeting last week.

Rather than vote to reorganize the board through the election of new officers, Waggoner made a motion that reorganization be delayed.

“Election time is an emotional time and it was a really hectic season all the way around,” Waggoner said. “We have had so much change in the district going on that I think for the health of our district, the administration and our students, that we leave the board as is and come back to it six months from now and talk about reorganization then.”

The discussions among the board centered on when the next reorganization discussion should be scheduled, as well as when the board would consistently consider reorganization in the future now that elections have shifted to November from May.

The final vote maintained the current organization, with a plan to discuss reorganization at a later date. The first meeting after graduation in June was discussed as a likely time for reorganization.

The board approved the motion unanimously. Will Streit will remain as board president, Waggoner as vice president and Barber-Jordan as secretary.

Two board members can at any point request an item on a future agenda to discuss potential reorganization of board officers.

MacKay defeated incumbent Russell Bundy, while Waggoner and Barber-Jordan won against challengers Chris Remy and Scott Rowe respectively.
