Parents of Leander ISD students wishing to transfer their child to a different campus will be able to apply for transfers for a limited number of campuses beginning Feb. 25.
The district announced that 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and four high schools will be open for transfers for the 2019-20 school year. Another five elementary and two middle schools are on a ‘watch list,’ meaning they can only accept a limited number of transfer requests.
Students approved for transfer will be allowed to attend one of these 25 schools, from a home outside the regular attendance zone for those schools. LISD staff makes a determination each year about which schools will have enough additional capacity to accept transfer students based on projected enrollment.
In addition to the open transfer opportunities, 55 students attending Running Brushy Middle School who are zoned for Cedar Park High School will be eligible to transfer to Leander High School. Those students reside in neighborhood codes 3100, 3200, 3300 and 3400.
Also, 26 students attending Henry Middle School who are zoned for Cedar Park High School will be allowed to transfer to Vista Ridge High School. Those students live in neighborhood codes 2075 and 2200.
The remainder of the district’s campuses are closed to transfer requests, except in the case of parents requesting a transfer to the International Baccalaureate Programme located at Leander and Vandegrift.
Students zoned to attend the new Larkspur Elementary School will not be allowed to transfer to another school unless they qualify under limited circumstances, according to district documents.
Transfer requests may be submitted from Feb. 25 through March 24. The district said parents requesting a transfer should from the district regarding those requests by April 29.
