Two local teams are preparing for the state tournament as the high school action on the baseball and softball fields prepares for the final push for the playoffs.

Rouse and Vandegrift's girls’ soccer teams both advanced to the state tournament. The Lady Raiders take on Aledo in the semifinals Thursday at noon, while the Lady Vipers face off with  Katy Tompkins at noon on Friday

The 5A girls’ finals are at 11 a.m. and the 6A finals are at 4 p.m. on Saturday. All state tournament games will be played at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.

Rouse looks to continue its incredible baseball season with a pair of home games against Georgetown Friday and Connally on Saturday. Cedar Park is hoping to snap a two-game skid at Cedar Creek on Friday

Vandegrift and Vista Ridge are both in playoff positions, but they each have tough week lined up. The Vipers face off with fourth place Hays three times, while the Rangers meet undefeated district leaders Lake Travis for a three-game set.

As the softball season enters the final two weeks of the regular season, a couple local teams are in playoff positions.

Rouse, after its 6-3 nine-inning win against Georgetown, is tied with Elgin for the District 19-5A lead with 11-1 records. Cedar Park has four district wins and is three games back of fourth place with four games to play.

In 6A, Vista Ridge is in third place, trailing just Hays and Westlake. The Lady Vipers finish the year against the Lady Rebels, two against Lady Chaps, and one against LakeTravis, all three of which are in playoff positions.

Leander and Vandegrift are at the bottom of the standings and have just three wins between them this season.

The Stars were eliminated from the playoffs with a 9-3 loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday night and failed to rebound, falling 3-1 in Charlotte on Sunday afternoon.

Texas wraps up the season with two games against the San Antonio Rampage, traveling to San Antonio for a game Friday night at 7:30 p.m. before ending the year at home Saturday at 7 p.m.

The minor league baseball season is finally underway, with the Express taking # of five games from the Nashville Sounds at home to start the season. They begin the week on the road and return home for a three-game set against the Omaha Storm Chasers beginning on Tuesday night.
