Police identify Leander teen boy’s body who drowned in Lake Georgetown


A 16-year-old boy from Leander who drowned while swimming at Lake Georgetown on Tuesday has been identified by police as Nathan Ellis.

Georgetown police said Ellis and two other swimmers were trying to swim across a narrow portion of the lake on the way to the Cedar Breaks boat ramp around 12:30 p.m.

When Ellis began struggling, his two friends and another person on the shore tried to help him but were unable to assist.

Police were notified at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday, and the Georgetown Public Safety Dive Team recovered his body approximately two hours later in 32 feet of water.
