PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Pitt scored on its first three possessions, dominating Rice in a 42-10 non-conference matchup at Heinz Field on Saturday.
The Owls managed just 60 offensive yards in the first half and trailed 28-0 at the break.
Quarterback Jackson Tyner led Rice on a 69-yard drive to open the third quarter, but the offense stalled and the Owls settled for a 23-yard field goal by Haden Tobola.
Tyner connected with Austin Walter on a 70-yard touchdown pass on Rice's next possession, but Pitt answered with scores on each of its next two drives, putting the game out of reach.
Tyner led Rice, going 15-of-32 for a career-high 222 yards and a touchdown. Walter added 162 all-purpose yards.
The Owls (1-4) host Army next Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
