Round Rock comeback falls short in Memphis

The Round Rock Express dropped the second of a three-game set against the Memphis Redbirds 5-3 on Tuesday night.

Round Rock starter Jose Urquidy (4-3, 5.04 ERA) suffered the loss after surrendering three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks in five innings. The Express were held to one run on five hits over the first six innings of the game.

With the San Antonio Missions' loss to the Iowa Cubs on Tuesday night, Round Rock maintains its 2.5 game lead in the PCL American Southern Division with about two weeks left in the regular season.

Memphis scored three runs in the third inning on Tuesday, first on a two-run home run by John Nogowski. A throwing error by shortstop Myles Straw ultimately led to another Redbirds run after a sac fly.

Lorenzo Quintana drove in the first run of the game for Round Rock with a bases-loaded sac fly in the sixth, but Memphis answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Express got within a run after loading the bases in the seventh. Taylor Jones hit an RBI single and Drew Ferguson worked a bases-loaded walk. But the Redbirds added an insurance run in the eighth inning to preserve the win.

The Express will look to bounce back in Wednesday night's game three. Round Rock lefty Kent Emanuel (7-1, 4.08) is set to start opposite Memphis' Jake Woodford (8-7, 3.96). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
