One inning was all it took to down the Express.

Playing a rare midweek day game, Round Rock gave up five runs in the fifth inning and dropped the second game of its four-game road series 5-3 on the road against the New Orleans Baby Cakes Wednesday afternoon.

Round Rock opening day starter Tyler Wagner (1-6, 8.70 ERA) gave up five runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Tanner Scheppers allowed one hit in 2.1 innings and Adam Loewen got the last out of the game.

The Express continued their barrage of home runs in the last few weeks. A.J. Jimenez hit his first of the season in the third inning and Jason Martinson went yard for the sixth time this year with a two-run shot in the seventh.

They have hit at least one home run in nine straight games and have 18 long balls in that span. In half of June, Round Rock has 23 homers, equaling or exceeding its entire home run total from both April (23) and May (20).

A big part of that has been Drew Robinson, who was named PCL Player of the Week and touched them all in seven of the last eight games. He had his three0game hitting streak snapped on Wednesday.

Jimenez sent a 1-0 pitch over the left-field wall in the third inning to give Round Rock and early lead.

New Orleans hit three straight singles to start the fifth inning and tie the game at one run apiece. Another string of three straight hits capped off by a two-run single to center field by MLB veteran Mike Aviles added four more runs.

Peter O’Brien drew a one-out walk in the seventh inning and Martinson brought him home with a bomb to center field.

Round Rock has two more games against New Orleans before wrapping up its 11-game, 12-day road trip. The teams face off Thursday at 7:00 p.m. when Anthony Bass (1-2, 4.17) takes the mound for the Express against Stephen Fife (4-3, 3.97).

The Express return to Dell Dimond to begin an eight-game homestand Saturday at 6:05 p.m. against the Memphis Redbirds.
