Round Rock shuts out Fresno for second straight game, wins fifth straight

The Express stretched their winning streak to five games with a 6-0 win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Wednesday night.

After shutting out the Grizzlies 5-0 on Tuesday, it’s the first time the Express have had back-to-back shutouts since 2013.

San Antonio lost to the Sacramento River Cats earlier in the night, so the Missions’ lead in the PCL American Southern Division is down to 3.5 games.

Round Rock starter Kent Emanuel (6-1, 3.98 ERA) continued his stellar form, giving up no runs on four hits and a pair of walks with six strikeouts over five innings. Reliever Ralph Garza didn’t give up a hit in three innings of relief.

Chas McCormick smacked a triple down the right field line in the first inning to clear the bases and give the Express a three-run lead. He scored on a wild pitch in the very next at-bat to add to the lead.

Alex De Goti drove in Jame Ritchie with a sac fly in the seventh inning and Ritchie drew a bases-loaded walk in the next inning to push the lead to six runs.

Round Rock RHP Carson LaRue (0-3, 5.71) is scheduled to face Fresno RHP J.J. Hoover (4-4, 7.52) as the Express go for the series sweep Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
