Ryan Rua hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to help the Express down the Colorado Springs Sky 2-1 for their second straight win.
Will Middlebrooks, Jared Hoying, and Phil Gosselin were the only other Rond Rock players to collect a hit. The Express beat Colorado Springs 4-1 on Tuesday after Monday’s series opener was canceled because Dell Diamond was slightly damaged.
In his Round Rock debut, starter Adrian Sampson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) didn’t allow a run and struck out four in five innings of work. Dario Alvarez (2-0, 2.33 ERA) picked up the win after striking out seven and allowing one run on three hits in three innings.
Tyler Wagner earned his third save of the year.
Nate Orf hit a solo home run for the Sky Sox in the sixth, sending the first pitch he saw to the stands in left field.
After Middlebrooks struck out to start the seventh for Round Rock, Hoying doubled to right field. Rua’s seventh home run of the season cleared the wall in center field and gave the Express their third win in the last four games.
Round Rock and Colorado Springs finish up the series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The Express begin the final series of the year on Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the Oklahoma City Dodgers. The season concludes Monday at 12:05 p.m.
