Search begins for new Leander City Manager

The Leander City Council has begun its search for a new City Manager through a council member-chaired task force they created back on June 6.

The Task Force members are Mayor Troy Hill, Mayor Pro Tem Chris Czernek and Council member Jason Shaw. The task force will work with consulting firm Powell Municipal, which has former Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell as a principal. The firm will provide it's services as part of it's already existing consulting contract with the City of Leander, which began in early January. The firm primarily consults with whoever is in the City Manager position and the Mayor but will now take on additional responsibilities to help facilitate the search.

Powell Municipal will accept letters of interest and resumes from prospective city manager candidates through July 5.

The firm may also solicit feedback from Leander residents, though specifics were not available on the day the search was announced.

A copy of the City Manager job description is available on the City website.

the task force will go through applicants in July and interview the small group of finalists in August.

The search for a new City Manager follows the sudden firing of former City Manager Kent Cagle o May 20, but the cause of the termination remains unclear. Neither the city nor the city council has given an explanation, though Hill posted that the "Council felt we needed a new direction."

Gordon Pierce is currently serving as Interim City Manager during the transition period.
