The Austin Spurs (4-2) won a thriller against the Sioux Falls Skyforce (3-2), 119-118, at H-E-B Center Tuesday afternoon in front of more than 6,000 students for the annual School House Jam.
Spurs two-way contract player Darrun Hilliard led Austin with a season-high 31 points, three rebounds and two assists. Jaron Blossomgame contributed 23 points (11-for-14 shooting) with eight rebounds and one assist. Matt Costello also posted his second double-double of the season with 13 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists.
The game started off close with four ties and seven lead changes in the opening six minutes. The Skyforce began to break away in the first half behind 70 percent 3-point shooting and had their largest lead of 22 points during the second quarter. The Skyforce led the Spurs 75-59 going into the half. The Spurs’ offense came alive in the second half as they began to cut into the third quarter lead with multiple runs led by Darrun Hilliard (10 points) and Jaron Blossomgame (seven points). The Spurs stayed within reach of the Skyforce the entire fourth quarter. With a final 10-2 push, Austin sealed the win with an alley-oop from Nick Johnson to Jaron Blossomgame with 0.4 seconds left.
For the Skyforce, Torrey Craig finished with 24 points, four rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes, while Tony Mitchell posted 24 points with seven rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes.
