Suspect in Leander carjacking held in Bastrop

A man suspected in a Sept. 3 shooting and carjacking in Leander has been arrested by Bastrop County law enforcement officers and is being held in the Bastrop County Jail in lieu of $1.1 million in bail. Leander police are still investigating the incident.

Armando Espinoza, Jr., 28, of Cedar Creek is being held by Bastrop County authorities.  Espinoza is alleged to have robbed another man of his truck after shooting the victim in the face. He is currently charged with aggravated robbery and is also facing a charge of burglary.

The incident occurred on East Evans St. in Leander. The victim in the case was so badly injured he could not talk, but he did eventually manage to write notes and give police and hospital authorities enough information to get a warrant for Espinoza, who was arrested last week in Bastrop County.

The victim in the case has not been identified by police or the Cedar Park Hospital where he is receiving care and is in stable condition. Leander police officials said they will eventually transfer Espinoza to the Williamson County Jail.
