Soccer is the sport of the week as the playoffs begin for both the boys and the girls with six local teams beginning the postseason this week.
Vandegrift gets things started with a doubleheader at Texas Lutheran on Thursday. The girls kick off at 6 p.m. and the boys are set to start at 8 p.m.
The Vista Ridge boys will play in San Marcos on Friday evening, while the Rouse boys travel to take on Magnolia West. The Rouse girls face Willis in Giddings and Cedar Park girls’ team will meet Tomball Memorial on Friday.
Two local teams in playoff positions meet when Vista Ridge hosts Vandegrift on the baseball diamond Tuesday night. The Vipers are 13-2 overall and 6-1 in district, while the Rangers are 11-2, 5-1.
Vista Ridge swept Leander, which has yet to win a district game, with wins on Friday and Saturday last week.
On the softball field, Rouse dropped its first district game just before spring break with a 4-0 loss Elgin. The Lady Raiders host East View Friday night. Cedar Park looks to snap a four-game skid Friday night at home against Bastrop before traveling to face East View on Tuesday.

The Spurs are on a roll, winning three of their last five games. A loss in each of their last two games would have eliminated them from playoff contention, but they beat the Windy City Bulls on Friday and the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Sunday.
Austin hosts the Santa Cruz Warriors Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The Stars lost two of three games on the road last week, falling to the Chicago Wolves and Cleveland Monsters. Texas is percentage points behind the Stockton Heat for fifth in the Pacific Division and faces the Heat for three crucial games next week.
