Justin Moore threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns in the first half alone, propelling Vandegrift to a 63-13 win over Leander at Bible Stadium on Friday night.
Moore connected with Peyton Ausley on a 64-yard strike early in the opening quarter erased Leander's early 3-0 lead that resulted from a blocked punt. Leander wouldn't take the lead again, scoring its lone touchdown in the third quarter on an Alex Hensley run from a yard out.
Running back Isaiah Smallwood tossed a touchdown pass to Brandon Tong on a trick play in the second quarter and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns.
Vandegrift's defense shut down the Lions for most of the game, sacking sophomore quarterback William Loofe on successive drives in the first and second quarters. The Vipers scored 21 points in under four minutes of play in the third quarter, with three turnovers resulting in touchdowns.
Leander falls to 0-6 overall ahead of a road trip to Hays next Friday.
Vandegrift improves to 4-3, with a 2-1 mark in District 25-6A. The Vipers host Vista Ridge next Friday.
