Vandegrift junior Hailey Derrickson finished in a tied for 27th at the girls’ state golf tournament at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown on Tuesday.
After finishing the season with a scoring average of 76.5, Derrickson shot rounds of rounds of 77-76 for a two-day total of 9-over par.
“She was consistent with what she’s done all year,” Vandegrift golf coach Matt Wernecke said. “(Monday) she putted and chipped fantastically to kind of keep herself in the round and she had better ball striking (Tuesday).”
Her scoring average for rounds in the postseason was 74.3 and she was an all-district and all-region selection.
She started Round 1 with a birdie on the par-4 1st hole and finished the front nine at 1-over 37. She dropped five shots on the back nine with one birdie on the par-4 14th to finish the round at 5-over 77.
Tuesday was nearly a mirror image for Derrickson as she went out in 39 with four bogeys and one birdie and finished with a birdie on the par-5 18th to come in with a 1-over 37 shoot 76 on the day.
Derrickson hit 13 greens in regulation on Tuesday compared to just five on Monday.
“This should just boost her confidence that next year she can go out and play with anybody,” Wernecke said. “The girls' team had a solid year start to finish.”
