The Cedar Park High School Band won their third University Interscholastic League (UIL) state championship in a row on Tuesday night. The Rouse Raider High School Band finished fourth in the state, and Glenn High School, in only its fourth year, made its first trip to the state competition this year.

After a heated debate last week, the Leander Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 4-3 in favor of a compensation plan paying a one-time 2% lump sum payment to be dispersed in Fall 2020. Board Vice President Aaron Johnson and Trustees Grace Barber-Jordan and Elexis Grimes voted against the proposed plan.  more

After much discussion and disagreement, the Leander Independent School District Board and Superintendent Dr. Bruce Gearing reached a compromise last week. With a 4-1 vote, the board approved the District Improvement Plan as presented, with the additional directive to the administration to reconsider and redefine the performance objectives for Goals 1-7.

The Leander Independent School District announced the hiring of a new Chief Technology Officer at a meeting on May 21. Beginning July 6, Jason Miller will be leading the Technology Services departments as well as the district’s vision for technology and innovation.

A juvenile was taken into custody Friday for threatening to shoot up Deerpark Middle School, according to information released by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office.

As the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, spreads throughout Texas and the United States, Williamson County and the Leander Independent School District have released updates about local efforts to prevent infection. 


The Williamson County and Cities Health District said there are no cases in the county as of March 3.

A group of trailblazing parents addressed the importance of meaningful inclusion in special education at the Leander Independent School District board meeting Thursday. Several parents spoke about their own experiences with special education in LISD, and how those experiences will shape their children’s lives in the future.

The Leander Independent School District is currently seeking input from the community via a survey regarding elementary attendance zones for the 2021-22 school year. 


The district said the survey question is “What considerations are important to you for Leander ISD to include in a charter used to create and adopt new elementary school attendance zones for the 2021-22 school year?” 


The submission window for the elementary zoning survey will close Tuesday, Feb. 11. The survey can be found here under the Community Feedback tab.
