OBIT: Jasper Augustine

Posted

Jasper Wayne Augustine of Cedar Park, Texas, passed away on July 8, 2024 at the age of 81. An eternal optimist, a faithful Scout leader, and a proud grandfather, Jasper was a product of Cajun Country who embodied the geniality so often associated with his adopted home state of Texas.

Jasper was born on December 5, 1942 in Mamou, Louisiana, and grew up amid a family of crawfish and rice farmers. He became something of a pioneer in his family by graduating from McNeese State University in 1965. After that, he spent some time in the oil field and had a stint as a seventh-grade math teacher before discovering his heart for salesmanship, from tires to insurance to shoes, until he found his calling as a Realtor in burgeoning Central Texas. Jasper told others that he took to real estate because he “loved helping people get what they want.”

Helping clients find the perfect home was just one of his loves, however. From the time he went to work for the Boy Scouts of America in 1968 as District Executive, through his involvement with his son’s and grandsons’ troops — and many others — he believed in the virtue and value of Scouting in young lives. He and his wife, Kathy, also loved to escape to national parks and the Rocky Mountains, where his ashes will be spread. He always had an opinion to share about the LSU Tigers or the Texas Longhorns during the gatherings he would host with his children and grandchildren, all of whom he would spoil with the best gumbo and etouffee west of Lafayette. He was also a consistent and beloved presence at his grandchildren’s baseball games and at Christ Episcopal Church, where — like everywhere else — he greeted all with kindness, joy, and a handful of jokes that he never tired of repeating.

Jasper is preceded in death by his parents, Savy Augustine and Clarice Aucoin Augustine, and his siblings Fernella “Fern” Augustine Landreneau, Frances “Fran” Augustine Fusilier, and John Augustine.

Jasper is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathy Augustine, and his brother, Ronald Augustine. Jasper is survived by his four children: Jason Augustine and his wife Dawn, children Bella, Julianna, and Victoria; Jennifer Augustine and her husband Tim, children Owen, Ayla, and Jonah; Amanda Augustine Embry and her husband Jason, children Graham and Miles; and Claire Augustine Hixson and her husband Austin.

The family would like to thank Avalon Memory Care for the compassion they showed Jasper in his final months. Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral at Christ Episcopal Church on Saturday, July 20 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to Christ Episcopal Church at 3520 W Whitestone Blvd, Cedar Park, TX 78613.
