Glenn aims to continue strong start to district play against Weiss

The Grizzlies scored 62 points in their season-opening win on the road against Elgin

As a first-year varsity program, Glenn just has to take the winnable games and build upon them. On Thursday, the Grizzlies will be presented with an opportunity to start the District 13-5A D2 season at 2-0 when they face Weiss at Bible Stadium.

Glenn and Weiss, two schools competing in their inaugural UIL varsity season, have never met before. The Wolves have started the 2018 season at 0-4 and 0-1 in district play. The Grizzlies sit at 2-2 with a 1-0 district record.

With East View and Bastrop on the remaining schedule, however, the Grizzlies have some stout competition coming. They can ride their high-octane offense to a momentous start to district play, as the scoring unit comes into Thursday's matchup against Weiss red hot.

Glenn's offense exploded for 62 points in last week's win at Elgin for the team's first district win. The Grizzlies are averaging 31.75 points per game early on.

Quarterback Drew McGuire, whose late-game heroics three weeks ago gave Glenn its first win, was 12-of-15 passing with 192 yards and three touchdowns in the win last weekend. Running backs Julian Morris and Lamont Slade ran for 301 combined yards in the shootout win.

Weiss fell to Bastrop 19-7 last week and the Wolves' offense has failed to score more than 13 points in a game this season.

Two other Leander ISD squads in Rouse (41-13) and Leander (23-3) have beaten Weiss in previous games this season.

Following its matchup with Weiss, Glenn travels to Bastrop to take on Cedar Creek next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
