ELGIN — Glenn made its first team playoff appearance in the volleyball this season. Even though it was a short stint in the postseason, the experience was invaluable.

The Lady Grizzlies were swept by La Grange 3-0 (13-25, 20-25, 17-25) at Elgin High School Tuesday night.

“I feel like we showed some of our inexperienced moments, but they fought,” Glenn head coach Ashley Foster said. “We struggled in serves received, but even when we were struggling, they kept each other together. They did a good job of continuing to play as a team.”

La Grange opened up a 14-1 lead in the opening set before Glenn stopped the run. The teams went back-and-forth the rest of the way and the Leopards took the set 25-13. La Grange opened up a 15-8 lead in the second set, but the Lady Grizzlies got as close as three points before dropping the set 25-20.

Glenn got out a 9-6 lead in the final set, but the Lady Leopards scored six straight points to take a 12-9 lead. They continued the streak, winning 13 of the 21 points to sweep the match and send Glenn home after one round.

“We’ve never played in a playoff game and there were jitters and we couldn’t get those out,” junior Olivia Langdon said. “There were points in the game where we played really well. It’s not the best to lose, but we take it and learn from it.”

Glenn finished the year in 18-28 overall and ended the regular season with three wins in the final five games. The Lady Grizzlies finished District 19-4A play at 7-5 overall, good for fourth place.

“Somebody has to win and somebody has to lose, so it’s hard to be on this side of it,” Foster said. I’m proud of everything they’ve done this season. They looked like a team that has the most potential I’ve ever seen. That’s the team that we always strive to be.”
