John Carlyle Shaw took his last breath on the morning of September 11, 2024, just weeks before his 88th birthday. John was a longtime resident of Jonestown.
John loved the art of the deal. As a salesman, first in greeting cards, then art and real estate, he loved the transaction where everyone felt they came away ahead. For many years John worked with SG Billings Realtors, as well as founded and operated Texas Land Sales.
As a veteran of the Air Force, he was proud to have served our country during the Cold War. Cooler was his crypto clearance, the stories of moving classified information in a briefcase, and the secrets he took with him. Keeping secrets was key to his integrity.
John was an avid hunter and many of his records still stand. He was a lifetime member of Safari Club International, a master measurer, and received many major hunting awards. His love of the hunt included conservancy. His land in Texas helped to establish the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, a legacy for us all to enjoy.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank Randolph and Barbara Shaw, his sister Nancy Foss, and his wife, Carol Bridges.
John is survived by his three children, Stephanie McAuliffe, Whitney Shaw, and Stephen Shaw.
Donations in memory of John may be made to your local nature conservancy organization.
