Police search for suspect in pair of bank robberies


Area police are searching for a suspect in a pair of Monday bank robberies.

The first was Compass Bank (201 N. US Hwy 183) in Leander shortly after 11 a.m. according to the Leander Police Department. The second, reported just after 3 p.m. by Lago Vista Police, occurred at the Compass Bank (20610 FM 1431) in

Lago Vista.

Tuesday police said they believed both robberies were committed by the same suspect, described after the first one as as a white or Hispanic male, about 5-foot, 135 lbs and wearing a black jacket, tan or khaki pants, a yellow reflective safety vest and camouflage baseball-style cap.

Witnesses at the Leander robbery said the suspect walked west from the bank and got in an early 2000’s model tan or gold Mercury Marquis with a ¼ vinyl top the same color as the vehicle.

Following the second robbery, officials said he fled into the woods nearby on  foot.

The suspect did not display a weapon in either robbery and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money from each.
